Industrial > Conceptual Design
We can create design concepts working in close cooperation with clients, as well as working independently to design parameters outlined by clients. The extensive engineering disciplines which we have in-house allow us to put together innovative and well thought out concepts, whether it is for large complex machinery or for smaller, simpler systems. Since we have expertise in many engineering fields, we can provide a one-stop coordinated development service. We are able to manage a complete project from conceptual design right through to release of manufacturing drawings and service support material.
Walking Excavator
The walking excavator was designed to showcase the engineering skills and expertise of AEDesign. The concept was to create a new style of excavator that would be able to operate on extremely rough or wet terrains, steep slopes, where the traditional caterpillar excavator cannot operate as effectively.
Rather than have the conventional chassis or crawler type undercarriage system, the walking excavator is designed to be mounted to a platform with independently operating supports. These supports consist of four wheel legs and front stabilizing outriggers, all of which are moveable to two degrees of freedom, both vertically and horizontally. The canopy for the driver is set atop the legs, with window and door protection for the driver, and is attached to the boom from the front and the engine compartment from the rear. The machine is able to overcome terrain obstructions, adapt to changes in the terrain, operate on extremely rough or wet terrains, steep slopes, and is able to maintain stability on slopes with its low ground pressure, and move in a tight turning radius since all wheels are steerable.
Structural Design
This involves work from the basic design plan up till the finished product assemblies, their CAD models and technical illustrations. The major areas of structural design are:
- Mathematical Modeling & Geometric Design
Our engineers use mathematical and geometric modeling to analyze and optimize systems. They are used throughout the engineering process from conceptual design and layout of products, through strength and dynamic analysis of assemblies to defining manufacturing methods of components
- 3D Modeling
Our design team uses state of the art 3D technologies to transform ideas and concepts into 3D visual imagery, to show
the final product and test its functionality.
- Design for Assembly and Manufacturability
Every small detail is considered when designing any part of a structure. The part may be manufactured by a number of processes. Planning the feasibility for the manufacturing of a part in such a way as to have maximum output with minimum resources requires engineering skills and experience.
- Standard components
Standard components having multiple functionalities are selected to reduce space requirements and increase efficiency.
- Mechanism Design
Mechanisms in the assembly are analyzed and their vibration analysis is done. Software used include MSc ADAMS/View and MSc Nastran/Patran.
